This beautiful backyard micro wedding was a stunning nod to all things fun and vibrant! The combination of dark green and warm, bold oranges and yellows with a splash of pink was such a good pop of color against the outdoor backdrop. Megan and Mitchell are dear friends of mine, so this day was extra special. Megan and I first met at Emerson College while studying abroad in The Netherlands and immediately hit it off. She and Mitchell had initially planned to have a full scale wedding, but with the pandemic being what it was, they ultimately decided to get married in their own backyard surrounded by eight of their friends (myself included). Megan is an incredibly talented artist and painted the mural shown in these photos, which made for unique and colorful photos as she got ready. She also created all of the signage and paper goods! Mitchell grew up in Los Angeles and took us to one of his favorite childhood secret spots for stunning views overlooking the city at sunset. This joyful backyard wedding was truly one of my highlights of 2020 and a much needed respite from pandemic doldrums. Take some time to scroll down and appreciate the beautiful depth of color and character in this beautiful private backyard wedding, featured on Green Wedding Shoes!
Isn’t this wedding invitation amazing? It gives you such a feel for Megan and Mitchell’s individual personalities and interests!
Shindig Chic created the gorgeous fall florals! It was over 80 degrees this day but we pretended there was crisp autumn air like in Megan and my home state of New Hampshire!
This autumn floral crown is so beautiful!
Every guest had a special task on the day – Josh here took some film footage!
I’ve never seen Mitchell look happier! He’s so dapper in his white tux and black pants!
His reaction to Megan was priceless.
Mitchell says, “I was BLOWN AWAY when I opened my eyes for the first time and saw her standing next to me. Her dress was so quintessentially her: understated in the same ways that she is, and yet it made a statement in the most Megan of ways. After nine years together, I had yet another one of those, ‘I’m the luckiest guy in the world’ moments. I can honestly say that the first look was not only the best moment of the entire day for me but also one of the best moments of my life.”
Megan rented this orange carpet for the ceremony site and it was the perfect anchor for a double triangle arch covered in fall flowers!
Jessica and Jennie Facetimed M&M’s parents for the ceremony.
They had their close friend, George, officiate – this made the ceremony extra personal.
Congratulations M&M!!
George and I had an extra special surprise for Megan and Mitchell! From Megan: “When we first started dating, Mitchell and I went to eat at Alcove Cafe in Los Feliz, and we sat at the table in the back that looks like a chessboard and has small drawers on the side. This is a treasured Los Angeles secret, but that table is special because many people who sit there leave notes in those drawers, and half the fun of sitting there is going through all of them and reading the secrets and stories and love letters that have been left behind. When we got our receipt, Mitchell turned it over and drew us on the back holding a heart balloon. Inside the balloon, it said “M from NH + M from LA.” He stuffed it in the drawer and we left and didn’t think about it again.”
Unbeknownst to M&M, George and I found the note while having lunch at Alcove and we figured it had to be theirs! We took it and gave it back to them nine years later.
Megan and Mitchell with their beloved beagle, Ruby.
We rode to one of Mitchell’s favorite childhood city overlooks for sunset.
By the time we got back to their house it was dark, but here is the lovely reception area and details shot earlier in the day!
We sat here and ate Mendocino Farms takeout which was truly one of the best meals I’ve ever enjoyed at a wedding.
Megan is a big animal lover and designed each guest’s seating card to correspond to their pets.
“We don’t really know what’s happening, but that’s standard for 2020” – facts.
Milk Bar cookies are a fan favorite!
Megan included a nod to my parents’ dog, Suzy, who is also the light of my life.
We had a ten person dance party and had the best time celebrating together for the first time nearly all year.
Congratulations Megan and Mitchell!!
