Margie and Jason eloped in Zion National Park on Earth Day! I first met them a couple of years prior for their engagement session, and they ultimately decided to get married surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Utah. We started the day before the sun came up with their first look and a sunrise ceremony at Under Canvas Zion and ended it at sunset inside the park – this meant double the golden hours (aka the prettiest light) of a typical wedding day! There were a few reasons why this happened. First, we really wanted an epic view inside Zion National Park, and the park only allowed ceremony permits for spots that didn’t quite fit the vision. Second, our favorite spot inside the park seemed to be best at sunset (based on my virtual research – this was my first time in Utah)! Lastly, Under Canvas Utah seemed to have the most epic view of the mountains at sunrise…so that’s where we landed!
Let’s start at sunrise. Margie and Jason love to camp, so glamping the night before their wedding at Under Canvas Utah was the perfect beginning to their adventure elopement.
Margie started getting ready at 4:00am so she and Jason could have their first look before the sun came up!
I drove from Los Angeles and was able to come to Under Canvas the day prior to scout the grounds with Margie and Jason. We found the perfect spot for their intimate wedding ceremony.
Their officiant just happened to match them perfectly! How stunning is this view?
After their ceremony was done we took a bunch of portraits as the sun rose from behind the mountains. Margie’s bouquet from By Bloomers was a lovely pop of color!
Once the sun was out in full force we all took some time to rest, eat, etc, and met back up in the afternoon. The weather had significantly changed from the brilliant sunshine that morning and threatened rain at any moment.
The sky opened up with rain just as we approached this gorgeous charcuterie picnic spread that Sunrae Planning so lovingly put together!
We ran everything to shelter and put it back out once the storm passed!
This pressed flower cake from CBJ & Company was gorgeous.
Aged & Cured made these beautiful spreads!
The sun came out once more!
After a quick champagne/charcuterie snack we made our way to an overlook inside Zion National Park for some epic portraits!
Margie and Jason hiked to this location in their wedding outfits – such dedication! I did the hike myself the day beforehand just to make sure it would be possible, but doing it in a dress with a train is next level!
The sun crept out at the perfect moment!
Congratulations Margie and Jason!!!
This Zion National Park elopement was truly a delight to photograph. I loved every moment of this adventure with Margie and Jason and can’t wait to have an excuse to visit Utah again soon!
Also, a note! Even though M&J eloped they still hired Jacqueline at Sunrae Planning to coordinate – and honestly everyone should follow in their footsteps! There are so many little details to organize and figure out, especially for a destination. Jacqueline helped us with locations (that picnic spot was all her!), she set everything up/broke everything down, and coordinated all the other vendors so M&J didn’t have to worry about anything.
